William Gardner "Billy" Hewes III is a Republican politician. He is the President pro tempore of the Mississippi State Senate. He was born in New Iberia, Louisiana and currently lives in Gulfport, Mississippi.

Senator Hewes is a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi. He is married to the former Paula Morton and lives with his family in Gulfport, Mississippi. He is an outdoors enthusiast and avid musician and serves on the Mississippi Blues Commission.[1]
Senator Hewes represents District 49, Harrison County, Mississippi. He has served that district since his election in 1992. He currently serves as president pro tempore of the Mississippi State Senate. He is the chairman of the Senate Rules Committee, and serves on the Business and Financial Institutions; Compilation, Revision and Publication; Elections; Environment Protection, Conservation and Water Res; Ethics; Finance; Highways and Transportation; Housing; Insurance; Legislative Budget; Municipalities; Ports and Marine Resources; and Public Health and Welfare committees.[2]
Hewes is an active candidate for the office of Lieutenant Governor of Mississippi.[3] He is one of the first viable contenders for that office from the state's Gulf Coast region.
